Scapular Stabilization

Core to extremity, we all hear this alot these days, but what does it mean? Simply put any time you use your hand to manipulate an object you need to anchor your body in space. This is usually done through the feet if standing, the knees if kneeling or this butt if sitting. Let’s put it this way, if your standing on ice and you grab someone’s hand who is standing on solid ground and then you try to pull that person towards you, what happens? You end up pulling yourself towards the person on the solid ground, because you have no anchor. Your “core” is only a means to allow this transfer of power to occur with maximum efficiency from your hand to your feet or anchor. If you can’t effectively recruit the deep muscles, followed by more superficial muscles of your spine then get good stability of your scapula, you will not be able to efficiently transfer forces. This sets an individual up for overuse injuries and structural breakdown. P1050273
